EXPLANATION OF THE GLOSSING SYSTEM
(to understand how I describe the signs in this translation).
DON'T WALK BEHIND-me ME: MAYBE DON'T-WANT LEAD. DON'T WALK AHEAD-OF-me ME: MAYBE DON'T-WANT FOLLOW. WHY~NOT WALK ALONG-SIDE-OF MR: TWO-OF-US FRIEND.
Notes: DON'T - (2h)[B], POs down, cross at wrists, then uncross moving horizontally and emphatically. For a QuickTime movie of this sign, see ASL browser - don't.
BEHIND-me - (2h)1-CL shows the placement of two standing people. They start alongside of each other and the DH moves behind the NDH.
ME - Underlined words are honorific indices ("indexes"), using the FT of the upturned palm to indicate who is being honored.
AHEAD-OF-me - (2h)1-CL shows the placement of two standing people. They start alongside of each other and the NDH moves ahead of the DH.
ALONG-SIDE-OF - (2h)1-CL shows the placement of two standing people. They are brought alongside each other and move off together remaining alongside one another.
Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
(Some versions have "Do not")
